Oxford Biomedica: Inclusion in the techMARK Index of the London Stock Exchange

Follows successful completion of £35.5 million fundraising and promotion to the Official List

Oxford, UK - 24th April 2001: Oxford BioMedica plc, the gene-based therapeutics company, is pleased to announce that with effect from today, 24th April 2001, the Company's shares will be included as a component of the techMARK index of the London Stock Exchange. This follows its recent promotion to the Official List of the London Stock Exchange and the successful raising of £35.5 million (before expenses) to fund its continued development including expansion into the United States.

Commenting on the announcement, Professor Alan Kingsman, Chief Executive, said:
"The promotion onto the Full List and the techMARK index jointly represent a very significant step for Oxford BioMedica. It is the culmination of a highly successful fundraising in the face of very difficult market conditions. We have attracted considerable institutional support, and have put in place finance for the anticipated expansion of our clinical trials pipeline and the establishment of a physical presence in the important US market where we see significant opportunities for growth. The fundraising is a substantial endorsement of our plans and team."
