PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
ImmStat is a novel gene-based therapeutic for HIV infection and
AIDS, based on potent HIV-based vectors designed to protect the
immune system of HIV+ patients. This therapeutic strategy aims to
create a population of immune cells within the patient that does
not support the replication of HIV and which is unaffected by the
emergence of resistant virus. The goal of ImmStat is to reduce viral
loads and maintain an asymptomatic state in HIV positive individuals.
This product aims to provide a novel additional strategy to deploy
alongside current drugs, working synergistically to treat the disease.
INDICATION
HIV infection and AIDS.
MARKET
Approximately 2.1 million people were living with HIV in North America, and Western and Central Europe in 2006 (Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS). An estimated US$2 billion is spent annually on HIV care in the developed world.
TECHNICAL
DESIGN
Anti-HIV therapeutic genes designed to disrupt the viral infection
and replication stage. Gene delivery uses an HIV-based lentiviral
gene transfer vector.
DEVELOPMENT
STATUS
ImmStat is currently in preclinical development and has demonstrated inhibition of HIV replication.
COMMERCIALISATION
STRATEGY
Commercial partners sought to co-develop and market the product.
